Palm Tree Removal

Palm trees are beautiful plants that can add a tropical feel to any yard. However, these palms need some work in order to keep them healthy and lush. It is important to understand what your palms need in order to prevent common issues with palm trees. Today we would like to talk about how you can keep your palm trees looking healthy year after year so you can enjoy them in all of their beauty no matter what season it happens to be!

One example of a problem that can be caused by improper maintenance is an infestation of pests called scale insects. Scale insects like sucking the sap out of plant leaves, which leads to yellowing and crinkling leaves. Some varieties of palm tree have natural defences against scale insects, but other species are more susceptible and require chemical treatment or simply removal of the infected leaves. There are various ways to treat these harmful bugs through products designed for plants, so you will want to consult with labels first before using any product on your prized palm trees.

If you notice a white film on the trunk or base of the palm tree that looks like powder , you may have mealy bugs. This can cause your tree's appearance to suffer because of the way they cover and feed on your prized palm. They tend to live in moist and damp areas, so take extra caution when watering or cleaning around your palm trees to avoid bringing them into contact with this infestation.

Mealy bugs are another type of pest that loves the sugary sap inside of palms. They can be identified by their white shell-like bodies surrounding a green body underneath that resembles cotton candy. These pests are more resistant than scale insects and require stronger chemicals to kill them off or even removal from the premises if chemical treatment does not work as desired.

If you notice large brown spots appearing on the fronds, then you may have a problem with caterpillars. If this is the case, then you will want to prune off the fronds that are heavily damaged as well as all surrounding fronds for safety precautions. Caterpillars can grow into large moths, so it is important not to let them develop into adulthood because they will continue feeding on your plants if allowed to do so. The damage that results from having these pests in your palm tree creates an opening for fungi and bacteria to attack, which also produces a foul odour emanating from the trunk of the palm tree itself once infected.

In the event that your palm tree may have terminal damage, then you should consider removing it before the disease spreads to other, healthier trees.  If your palm tree has black spots or a rotting base, then it is likely that the trunk of the tree will soon break off and fall over. This can cause considerable damage to your yard or garden if the area beneath was already planted with beautiful flowers or shrubs. You may want to consult with a professional arborist in order to have your sick palm tree removed safely so you do not risk damaging anything else in its path.

The easiest way to treat these pests is by spraying them with a mixture of soap and water. This method will not kill the bugs, but it will make them unable to move properly because of the layer of soap covering their bodies. The best time to spray your palm trees for mealy bugs is in the evening when they are no longer active, so that you do not contaminate your plants or flowers. After applying treatments like this one, you should wait a couple of days before performing any maintenance on your palm tree until the treatment has dried completely. That way you can avoid accidentally harming any beneficial insects currently living in and around your garden.

An additional option you have to treat an insect infestation is to use a soap and oil mixture instead of the usual soap and water formula. The reason this works so well is because most insects actually feed on oils, not just sugary sap like mealy bugs do.  Mixing the two will cause them to overeat because they love oily substances, but they are unable to digest heavy amounts of it quickly enough, causing their stomachs to explode and killing them in the process. When spraying trees with this solution, make sure to apply in several thin layers rather than one thick covering of soap or else it can wash off before it has time to work properly.

Any regular insecticide you can purchase at your local home improvement store can be used to kill pests on your palm tree. You will want to choose a non-repellent insecticide for this particular job because it is safer for you and the environment as well as the other plants in your yard or garden if any come in contact with it.

Always eliminate these pests as soon as you notice them so that your palm trees can stay strong and healthy for years to come.
